Come join us for Hebron Colonial Day sponsored by Country Carpenters on September 21, 2024.
This free event will allow you to step back in time to 1750’s Hebron. Visit our town in its infancy, having only been established in 1708.
Begin the day by taking a walk up the path toward our village, stopping first at the Mohegan campsite.
Talk to Historians about life in the local forests and learn about the use of these woods for hunting, planting and harvesting by our native friends.
Upon entering town, the unmistakable sound of the anvil’s ring will be coming from the Blacksmith’s Shop.
Stop by to see the town smithy pump the mighty bellows, making utensils used by the local townsfolk.
The sound of playing children will greet you as you walk out of the Blacksmith Shop on your way to the one room school and meeting house.
Talk with the teacher or the reverend and learn about education and church life in 1750 Hebron.
Entering the large post and beam barn will transport you to a Woodworking Shop where chairs are made, and household items are carved, and baskets are being made.
The smell of the campfire and the occasional sound of a musket firing might attract your attention.
Walk into an encampment where you will see one of our early settlers working on a post and beam timber frame that will soon be his home here in early Hebron.
You can also spend time looking at and discussing the firearms and accessories used in that day
Textiles may be items that we take for granted today. However, it was not so in 1750.
Visit our carriage shed that has been turned into an early Hebron home and observe the delicate stitching and demanding work put into creating textiles.
As you stand in front of the hearth you can talk to an herbalist about the medical uses of herbs in the mid-1750s.
Finish your walk across the town green by discussing the transformation of open land into crop filled fields, with a colonial farmer.
